What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?
In this study you will be asked questions relating to migration, mental and sexual health which you may find distressing. There is a possibility that completing the surveys could evoke previous negative experiences with your health or migratory experience. You may find that some questions do not apply to you.
Before you undertake a survey you will be explained in short about its content and you can then decide whether to take part in that particular survey. Should you become distressed, you will be able to stop the survey at any time by pressing the ‘close’ button. Following most surveys, we will include information to signpost you to national support related to the survey you have just undertaken. Additionally, the resource section of the HOME app will have more information about the health and migration services available in the UK.
We advise you to contact your GP or local mental health services should you feel you need more support.
What data is collected and what will happen to the results of the research study?
The survey questions will cover a wide range of topics that can affect your health and wellbeing, like your nutrition, housing, employment, and experience with your GP or healthcare provider.
Your data will be used for academic research by UCL and only de-personalised results will be shared to improve health, care and services for the migrant community.
The results of this study will be written up and published in scientific journals as well as within wider media platforms. We will engage with policymakers to help them make decisions that better reflect the health needs of migrants like yourself in the UK.
Additionally, we will send you summaries of our analysed data every few weeks via email. The results will also be on the study website.
